It is important to confirm that as a company we strongly advise that Window Restrictors are not installed for use with UPVC doors but in theory they can also be used for UPVC doors for additional security if you wish.
The reason for this is that UPVC doors/ composite doors should already have installed adequate Police approved (Secure by Design accredited) PAS 24 multi point locking mechanisms which makes “spreading” the door open extremely difficult and certainly not a quick and easy task.
It has fast become a house insurance requirement that external doors meet the PAS24 accreditation requirements. We advise for maximum security that for each door or window, 2 x Window Restrictors should be installed. One in the top area and one in the bottom area.
There are various versions of Window Restrictors that either include models that are lockable with a key or versions that come without a key.
SheffLOCK advise that Window Restrictors be lockable, this is so that should a Burglar smash a window they cannot simply reach in, undo the Window Restrictor by hand without a key and then proceed to lever open the window.
